Description

Structure:

  • Herbaceous plants from a taproot.
  • Stems 15-50 cm high, usually branched, pubescent (hairy) with long twisted, and short straight, glandular hairs.

Leaves:

  • Pinnately lobed to dissected.
  • Mostly basal, 2.5 to 10 cm long.
  • On the stem alternate and reduced in size upwards.
  • Pubescent with short white hairs.

Reproductive Parts:

  • Cymes (flower clusters) few to numerous, coiled, compact or interupted.
  • Flowers in a spike-like or raceme-like cyme.
  • Petals united, lobes about half as long as the tube, yellowish-white or tinged blue, 8-10 mm long, 10-14 mm wide. hairy.
  • Sepals united but deeply 5-lobed.
  • Stamens (male parts) about twice as long at the petals.

Seed:

  • Capsules 5-7 mm long.
  • Fruit is a many seeded capsule.
